Vreedenblues revisited

Had a blast playing in one of my favorite bars in Utrecht again. When I lived in the city-center I used to hang out here quite a lot.
We also organized our own blues-events called ‘Vreedenblues’. Actually this is the place where Jenn and I first met.
As to be expected, the afternoon started out saying hi to a lot of familiar faces. By the time Jennifer started playing, everybody was really excited.
She did a wonderful job, and the crowd was impressed. just a little bit of mumbling and a lot of cheering at the end of every song, the respect a musician deserves in my opinion.

Unfortunately when the afternoon progressed, it got noisier and noisier. A lot of people where losing their concentration and would rather listen to their own vocal chords rather than showing some respect for us playing. By the time I was playing myself, I had to, repeatedly, ask people to lower their voices. To their credit, they consciously did for a couple of minutes before returning to their former, rowdy behavior,

It was probably one of the more noisy places I’ve played at in the last couple of months and despite the wonderful ambiance an all good intentions, when it comes to respectfully keeping the ‘dutch disease’ tot a minimum I will have to lower the rating a bit. (when it comes to a welcoming and warm environment  they still score 5 out of 5 nevertheless).

So my loudless rating for this evening would be:

(2.5 / 5)

Affligem Blues Festival

I will start by saying this venue is one of the more friendly places in Delft. With a nice ambiance and very cool and hardworking boys and girls serving you food and drinks with a swift precision.

Playing there is always a treat but also a bit difficult considering I have to cramp my stuff on a stair-platform between two sections of the room. On the other hand this gives me the opportunity to glance over the crowd with ease like a goofy king looking over his flock ;-).

The evening started out pretty darn awesome. A lot of people came in to listen to my humble musical frolicking and it was a lot of fun. Getting people to sing, clap and dance with a lightheartedness is always on a musicians favorite menu. The dancing part was off-course covered by a small group of blues dancers from the “crash!” organisation who never seem to miss a show whenever I am in the neighborhood. Many, many thanks for that!

Too be honest, after the evening progressed, the beerbuzz was getting the upper hand  and this resulted in a bit of assholery on the part of some individuals. Hanging around on the stairs and harassing other people whilst not realizing everybody downstairs where only getting a glimpse of their wiggly little chimp butts instead of me, trying to sing and play my way around their rowdy behavior….. not cool. Also, a nice american lady came all the way from Brussels to watch me play and got a rude sneer from a couple of guys whom she politely asked to tone it down a little bit… also definitely NOT COOL!!

So my loudless rating for this evening would be:

(3 / 5)

Crash! the Blues Festival Delft 2018

It is always a joy to play for blues dancers, simple as that. I can recommend every colleague musician to try it when you get the chance.

Very generous, cheerful boys and girls who definitely know their way around the blues AND the dance floor. The best thing is: you know your audience is paying attention because… well.. they have to ;-). It always amazes me how many different nationalities are gathered together on these events. And everybody knows everybody from other meetings. They treat you with respect and are not afraid to approach you with tips and comments.

This evening was the start of their weekend so it sometimes was a little “chattery” because they hadn’t seen each other for a while but I would still take these nice cats over many other audiences anytime!

So my loudless rating for this evening would be:

(4 / 5)
